DIY Wedding Centerpiece: All-White Hydrangea Garden Style Arrangement

Soft, romantic, and elegant, this all-white hydrangea centerpiece is a beautiful option for weddings, showers, and formal dinners. The design is intentionally low and slightly organic so guests can see across the table while still enjoying a lush floral moment.
The base of fluffy white hydrangea creates fullness while a few accent blooms—garden roses and small white dahlias—add movement and texture.
The best part: this arrangement is extremely DIY-friendly. Hydrangeas do most of the work, making the design forgiving even for beginners.

Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prep Your Flowers
Hydrangea are very water-sensitive, so proper prep is important.
-
Cut stems at a sharp angle.
-
Remove leaves below the water line.
-
Place stems into deep water for 2–4 hours before designing.
Pro florist tip: Dip freshly cut hydrangea stems into alum powder to improve hydration.
2. Prepare the Container
-
Soak floral foam in water with floral preservative until fully saturated. Do not force the foam to soak up the water (this will not allow the inner foam to saturate properly. Gently place the foam on the water surface and let it sink. When it is submerged it is saturated.
-
Cut foam to fit snugly in the bowl.
-
Secure with waterproof floral tape.
The foam should sit slightly above the rim of the container so flowers can angle outward naturally.
3. Create the Hydrangea Base
Start with the hydrangea to form the structure.
-
Insert 3 hydrangea around the edge of the foam.
-
Add 1–2 hydrangea in the center.
Keep stems short so the flowers sit just above the rim. This creates the classic lush mound shape.
Hydrangea acts like a floral pillow that supports the accent blooms.
4. Add the Accent Flowers
Now place your focal blooms.
Garden Style Roses
-
Insert 2 roses slightly above the hydrangea.
-
Angle them outward for a natural garden look.
Dahlias
-
Add 2 dahlias slightly taller than the roses.
-
Offset placement so they feel airy rather than symmetrical.
You want a soft triangular movement in the design.
5. Optional Texture
Add spray roses tucked low into the hydrangea to soften transitions between flowers.
Design Tips from our Florist
Keep It Airy
Avoid packing everything too tightly. Let some hydrangea petals show between blooms.
Vary Heights
Keep the hydrangea low but allow a couple accent flowers to float slightly higher.
Think “Garden Picked”
Arrangements look more natural when flowers are slightly offset rather than perfectly centered.
